Research and development

The research and development department at Frimley Park Hospital aims to assist the development of the evidence base used to inform the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of illness through clinical trials.

The hospital is taking part in an increasing number of clinical trials. We are an active partner of the Surrey and Sussex Comprehensive Local Research Network (SSCLRN), encouraging UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN) portfolio trials into the hospital.

At present our main areas of research are ophthalmology, stroke, urology, cancer and women and children. However, there are a growing number of trials spanning different departments.

What we do

  • Review and approve all research projects carried out in the hospital
  • Set up and manage commercial and non-commercial clinical trials
  • Co-ordinate governance, monitoring and auditing of research activity in the hospital
  • Support and facilitate staff training and development in research skills
  • Support and manage intellectual property on behalf of the trust
  • Provide support and advice to staff on all matters relating to research and development
