Volunteering

Everyone has it in them to do something extraordinary

Our volunteers at Frimley Park Hospital make an invaluable contribution to the running of the hospital and the wellbeing of our patients.

We currently have an enthusiastic team of over 300 volunteers working in various departments across the trust but we are always looking for more. Work patterns and time commitments vary but any help and support available is greatly valued by staff and patients alike. Our volunteers are very special people to us - if you would like to become involved with volunteer work at the hospital, or know of someone else who might be interested, please contact Joanne Dunster on 01276 526706 for more information.

Here are just some of the ways our volunteers are contributing to the success of Frimley Park Hospital.

Main reception
Volunteers working at the hospital's reception desk warmly welcome patients, visitors and staff and help them with directions and information about the hospital as required.

Meal time support
Some patients need a little extra help at mealtimes. By assisting them with their food and drink intake, volunteers are providing a vital service which will aid patients' recovery. This is one area where the trust would like to attract more volunteers.

Patient surveys
The trust would like to hear from volunteers who would be interested in talking to patients before they go home to ask them about their experience as a patient at Frimley Park. This involves spending approximately five minutes with each patient, taking them through the survey and recording their response on a PDA.  Generally speaking, this valuable role needs volunteers who are available during the day and who are happy to go from ward to ward talking to different people.

Spiritual support
We have a team of volunteers, mostly drawn from local churches,  who will listen and provide spiritual support to those who may be experiencing a worrying time. Volunteers also attend on Sunday mornings to provide Holy Communion at the patients' bedside. If you are interested in this aspect of volunteering, please contact David Austin, hospital chaplain, on 01276 604184 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Fundraising
The trust has a well-established charitable fund which helps to finance some services, equipment and enhancements that would not normally be expected in an NHS hospital. For example the trust is currently aiming to raise £1.5m for the Heart 2 Heart Appeal to equip a new heart attack centre providing life-saving gold standard treatment for heart attack patients. We rely on a small army of volunteers helping our fundraising team to reach their targets.

Radio Frimley Park
Radio Frimley Park broadcast music and hourly news round the clock to patients. The hospital radio station is staffed purely by volunteers.

Training and/or mentoring is provided in all areas so no one need fear that they are going to be thrown in at the deep end. If you would like to make a difference and join our friendly team of volunteers, please contact:
