With the proposals laid out in the recent government white paper on the NHS and our plans to build a new heart attack centre, emergency department, day surgery unit and helipad it is clear that we are entering some of the most exciting and challenging days in the trust's history.
The Council of Governors, comprising 37 publicly elected and appointed members, holds the hospital's board of directors to account for their performance and plays a key role in forming the trust's strategy.
Public and staff governors are elected for a term of three years to serve on the Council of Governors, representing the interests of foundation trust members within their respective constituencies and raising concerns with the board.
Within the next three year term, the trust will be transforming its relationships in the healthcare community as primary care trusts are dissolved and GP consortia take over most of the local healthcare budgets.
Elections will conclude in March 2011 for 15 public and 3 staff governors in the following constituencies:
Public
- Waverley: 1 vacancy
- Bracknell Forest & Wokingham: 1 vacancy
- Guildford: 1 vacancy
- Hart: 2 vacancies
- Surrey Heath: 2 vacancies
- Rushmoor: 4 vacancies
- Patient or carer outside catchment: 1 vacancy

There is one vacancy for each of the following constituency:
- Admin/Management/Estates/Hotel services
- Medical/Elderly care/Pharmacy/A&E
- Women's and children's services
