HWP in special measures
Statement in response to Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals being placed in special measures
1 May 2014
As previously announced, Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (FPH) is in the process of assessing the potential acqusition of neighbouring Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HWPH). Following the publication of HWPH's Care Quality Commission report on 1 May 2014, which recommended that the trust be placed in special measures, FPH issued the following statement:
"We are very much aware of the complex issues at Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HWPH). In supporting HWPH we will do all we can to help lift the trust's performance and improve services for local people, while continuing to explore the potential acquisition of HWPH. We have been encouraged by the endorsement Frimley Park has had from Monitor and the Care Quality Commission.
"With regard to the potential acquisition, the board at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust continues to work on a full business case examining the prospects of the acquisition in great detail. As previously stated, this stage is due to be finished by the summer. Once completed, the full business case will form the basis of the case made to each trust's board and council of governors and to Monitor, the foundation trust regulator, in seeking their agreement for the acquisition to proceed. The acquisition must also be assessed and cleared by the Competition and Markets Authority, whose review is underway."
